When I was overweight and had just started back at my gym I can truly say I wasn’t feeling too great about myself – my fitness was near nothing and so was my body image. Regardless I was going a few times a week to either do weights or some cardio as I’d made that commitment to myself.  I was fine doing my own thing but I found myself super curious about this fitness class that everyone seemed to go to.

I’d stand outside the door and peek through the window watching all of those sweaty souls push, jump, and lunge their body around. They were all smiling and looked like they were having a blast.

The instructor was super cool too – he’d often say to me, “Jen, when are you coming to class? You should come and give it a try!” I’d politely smile and say thanks and give some lame excuse like I was busy. The reality was It looked WAY too hard for someone in my shape so I never went because I didn’t want to feel embarrassed.

Are you nodding along in understanding yet?

Well, if you’ve ever felt that way – wanting to try some sort of fitness experience but holding back because you don’t think you can do it, this video is for you! It’s also for you if you live in Calgary and are looking to add something new to your fitness routine.

Alright, so clearly you can see I’m a big fan of fitness classes now. Why? A million reasons but here are my favorites:

  • They’re fun
  • Signing up increases commitment and accountability so you actually go (and get that workout in even when you might not feel like it)
  • Variety is the spice of fitness – you don’t get bored! That can happen in the gym sometimes
  • You have someone telling you that you’re awesome which help keeps you motivated
  • Create your own fitness community and a great way to feel/be social (without eating or drinking…water totally allowed)

PS. The class featured in this video is called TKO and is created and led by Pete Estabrooks, The Fitness Guy. You can find out more about him here on his website and make sure to follow him on Facebook!
